Connecting phones
What to enter in a SIP phone or softphone so that it registers on the PBX, and how to check the connection.
For PBX version 0.3 (alpha)
You can connect an IP phone, a softphone on a computer or a mobile app to an extension — any device that works over SIP.
What to enter in the phone
| In the phone | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Server (domain, registrar) | the PBX address: the panel’s domain or the server’s IP address |
| Port | 5060 |
| Username and login (auth ID) | the extension number, for example 201 |
| Password | the SIP password of this extension |
| Transport | UDP or TCP |
The server address and the PBX’s external address are shown in “System” → “Network”, in the page header.
The SIP password is shown only when the extension is created. If it was not kept, set a new one: open the extension, fill in the “New SIP password” field, click “Save”, then “Apply”.
A phone outside the office
- For phones behind a router, leave “Phone behind NAT (a router)” on, on the “Phone and SIP” tab — it is on by default.
- If the audio drops or is heard only one way, see Common problems.
- If “Only known phones from the Internet” is on in “Security”, a phone from a new internet address will not connect. Employees who travel need a VPN.
Several devices on one extension
One extension can work on several devices at once, for example on a desk phone and in a mobile app. “Devices at once” sets how many (1 to 5, 3 by default). A call to the extension comes to all its devices.
Check the connection
- Open “Employees” → “Extensions”.
- The extension should have the “Online” state, and its row should show the phone’s address and device type: “IP phone”, “Softphone” or “Mobile app”.
- Call another extension.
If the extension is “Offline”, see Common problems.
Version 0.3 has no phone auto-provisioning and no QR code for softphones: the data is entered in the phone by hand.
