Installation

Server and network requirements

What server you need, which ports to open and where to keep backups — prepare all this before the installation.

For PBX version 0.3 (alpha)

The PBX is installed on a separate server or virtual machine. Prepare it before the installation.

Server

WhatRequirement
Operating systemUbuntu Server 26.04 LTS, a clean installation
Processor2 cores, x86-64 architecture
Memory4 GB
Diskfrom 40 GB, plus space for call recordings
Network addressa permanent IP address, or an address reserved for the server in DHCP

Version 0.3 does not install on other Ubuntu versions or other systems.

How much space recordings take: a minute of conversation is about 0.75 MB. For example, 100 hours of recordings take about 4.5 GB. How long recordings are kept is set in the panel; more in the article Call recording and the call log.

Ports

Open these ports on the router or in the cloud security group:

PortWhat for
443/tcpthe admin panel over HTTPS
80/tcpthe Let’s Encrypt certificate and the redirect to HTTPS
5060/udp and 5060/tcpSIP: phones and providers
10000–10500/udpcall audio (RTP)
51820/udponly for a link to another PBX over VPN

The panel itself shows which ports its current settings need: “System” → “Network” → “Which ports must be open”.

Internet

  • During the installation, the server needs internet access.
  • If the panel will have its own domain, the domain must point to the server, and port 80 must be open: then the PBX gets a Let’s Encrypt certificate by itself. Without a domain, the panel works with its own SAMPBX certificate, and the browser asks you once to trust it.
  • The telephony provider and remote employees need access to SIP and the audio ports.

Where to keep backups

The server’s own disk will not save the backups if that disk fails. Prepare a separate place: a network folder (SMB), an SFTP server or S3 storage. More in the article Backups.
