Setup
First steps in the panel
Where to start setting up a new PBX, how the “Save” and “Apply” buttons work, and how to check a setting with a call.
For PBX version 0.3 (alpha)
Setup order
On the “Overview” page, the administrator sees the “What next” list. Set up the PBX by this list, from top to bottom:
- “Extensions” — the employees’ extensions: Extensions, then Connecting phones.
- “Provider (SIP trunk)” — the connection to a telecom operator: Providers (trunks).
- “Incoming: where calls from outside go” — Inbound calls.
- “Outgoing: how to call outside” — Outbound calls and rights.
- “A backup” — Backups.
Items are checked off by themselves when the setup is done. You can hide the list with the “Hide” button.
Save and apply
Settings in the panel work in two steps:
- “Save” writes the setting to the PBX database. A yellow bar “Saved but not applied” appears at the top of the page.
- “Apply” in this bar passes all saved changes to the PBX. The “What changed” link shows what exactly will be applied.
Until you click “Apply”, the PBX works the old way. This is handy: you can prepare several changes and apply them at once, for example in the evening.
If a new setting does not work, first check whether there is a yellow “Saved but not applied” bar at the top.
Check by calling
Many objects — extensions, queues, menus — have a “Check by calling” button. The PBX calls you and connects the call to the object being checked: you see whether the setting works without calling from an outside phone.
Who can do what
The administrator can change settings. In version 0.3 the panel has one user — admin; its password is set at the first sign-in.
Change log
Every change is recorded: “System” → “Change log”. The “Changes” tab shows who changed what and when; the “Apply log” tab shows when settings were applied and with what result. Password values are not written to the log.
