Voice menu (IVR)
How to make a menu with a choice by phone keys: the greeting, the keys, what to do if nothing is pressed, and the choice of language.
For PBX version 0.3 (alpha)
A voice menu greets the caller with a recording and sends the call on by the key pressed. Menus are in “Routing” → “IVR menus”.
Prepare the greeting
First upload the greeting recording in “Features” → “Sounds and music”: Sounds, music and announcements. Version 0.3 has no text-to-speech — you need a ready recording.
Create a menu
- Click “Create menu”.
- “Name” and “Number” — you can call the menu’s number from an internal phone to check the menu.
- “Greeting” — choose the uploaded recording.
- Add keys with the “Add key” button: for each key, choose where to send the call. Keys 0 to 9, star and hash are available.
- Click “Save”, then “Apply”.
- Point an inbound route to the menu: “Send calls to” → “Voice menu”.
If the caller presses nothing
- “Wait for input” — how many seconds to wait for a key press (1 to 60, 5 by default).
- “Repeats” — how many times to repeat the greeting (3 by default).
- “If nothing is pressed” and “If a wrong key is pressed” — where to send the call.
- “Menu visits per call” and “If going round in circles” — what to do if the caller comes back to the menu again and again.
Language and dialing an extension
- “Language switch key” — with this key, the menu speaks Uzbek: for this, upload an Uzbek version of the recordings.
- “Allow dialling an extension” — the caller can dial an employee’s extension right away. You can limit the range of extensions. Keep in mind: this way any outside caller can reach any employee in the range.
