Maintenance

Logs, diagnostics and maintenance

Where to see logs, how to check the network and SIP, make a support bundle, restart services and keep an eye on the disk.

For PBX version 0.3 (alpha)

Logs and diagnostics

“System” → “Logs and diagnostics” is for the administrator only. Every action on this page is written to the log. Its tabs:

  • “Asterisk console” — ready-made commands for viewing: extensions and trunks, provider registration, active channels, queues and others. Choose a command and click “Run”. Linux commands are not available here.
  • “Network and SIP checks” — ping, traceroute, DNS, “SIP check (OPTIONS)” for an address or a provider, and “Outside check”. Here is also “SIP trace recording” — a recording of SIP messages for 15, 30 or 60 seconds that you can download and pass to support.
  • “Logs” — the logs of Asterisk, the system, the firewall and other services, with a filter by period and a search by number or address. The “Download” button saves them to a file. Passwords, keys and tokens are hidden in the logs.

Support bundle

The “Support bundle” button at the top of the page builds an archive: versions, the state of the services, the logs of the last day, and the settings. It contains no passwords or keys. Add a description of the problem to your request — a SAMPRO engineer may ask you for this bundle.

Maintenance

“System” → “Maintenance” is for the administrator only:

  • “Date and time” — the server’s time zone.
  • “Storage” — what takes up the disk; “Remove old logs” and “Keep logs, days”.
  • “Services” — the state of the PBX services and the “Restart” button. Asterisk can be restarted at once or when there are no calls.
  • “Server” — load, memory, disk, uptime and versions.

The panel warns you when the disk is 80 % full, and more strongly at 90 %: free up space by deleting old call recordings and logs.

Dangerous actions

“Dangerous actions” has a reboot, a power-off and a factory reset.

  • During a reboot, calls stop for about 2 minutes.
  • After a power-off, the server can be turned on only with the button on the server or in the hosting control panel.
  • Factory reset: you can reset only the settings, or everything, including recordings and logs. Before the reset, the PBX makes a backup, and to confirm the reset you must type the server name.
